Rental Info

Welcome!  Thanks for your interest in renting Brooks Camp, located on Lincoln’s Beach, along the eastern shore of Lake Androscoggin, in the quaint New England town of Wayne, ME.  Wayne is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes north of Portland, and approximately 30 minutes west of the state capitol, Augusta.  Lincoln’s Beach is a beautiful private beach, and as such, only the owners and renters of the other properties along the beach (a total of 6 cottages, 3 of which belong to members of the Brooks/Crowley family) are permitted to use it.  The gradual drop-off of the sand into the water makes this beach ideal for children.

Built in 1953, Brooks Camp has five bedrooms and lots of mid-century character and history.  Three bedrooms feature queen beds, and two have two twin beds.  There is also a cot that may be set up wherever you would like.  The maximum number of people permitted to stay at the camp is ten.  The camp comes with WiFi, a modern gas range, dishwasher, washer & dryer, and plenty of A/C.  There is a large central fireplace, and electric heaters for bedrooms.  There are 2 full bathrooms, one at either end of the 60′ x 30′ cottage.  One bathroom has a stall shower, and the other has a bathtub & shower.  Running water comes from a well on the property and has been tested as safe for drinking.  The large front porch has a comfortable seating area, a patio dining table & 6 chairs, an outdoor grill, and a stunning view of the sunset.

Androscoggin Lake comprises 4,000 acres (~2.8 miles wide by ~4.5 miles long) and features some of the finest bass fishing in Maine.  As a shallow lake (38′ at its deepest point), Androscoggin’s waters warm up quickly in the summer, and stay warm well into September.  There is remarkably light boat traffic.  Additionally, it is superb for wildlife watching and listening, especially to the call of the unofficial Maine state bird, the loon.  There are generally two pairs of nesting bald eagles on the lake, and lots of osprey and blue heron, so bring your binoculars.

If you’re looking for things to do away from the beach, the camp is about an hour’s drive from Freeport, the home of L.L. Bean (and some great outlet shopping), and from Brunswick (home of Bowdoin College).  It’s about an hour and a half from Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point.  Additionally, there is an excellent public golf course, Springbrook, just 20 minutes away.  Around the corner from Springbrook is a beautiful winery, Willows Awake, serving gourmet meals.  For a little culture, head 8 miles south to The Theater at Monmouth for Shakespeare and other classical plays, plus a children’s matinee. To fill your need for take-out wine, cheese and lobster, we suggest Lighthouse Wine & Seafood 12 miles away in Manchester.  More locally, there is coffee, homemade pizza, deli foods, and yummy baked treats at Julian’s General Store.  Cobbie’s Corner Store has a friendly lunch counter, gas, delicious takeout food, and essentials.  Tubby’s serves its famous homemade ice cream, along with lobster rolls, hot dogs, and hamburgers, which you can eat while overlooking the Mill Stream.  We have two pottery retailers in Wayne, Lakeside Pottery and Wayne Village Pottery.  All of these local vendors are conveniently located in picturesque downtown Wayne.  Before you check in on Saturday, be sure to check out the Wayne Farmers’ Market for organic meats, cheeses, fresh vegetables, pottery, soaps, and other handmade items.   The Cary Memorial Library in Wayne has a wonderful selection of books for both children and adults, as well as computer stations and high-speed internet access for visitors’ use.  There are a variety of amenities in Winthrop, just 7 miles from Wayne, including a large and well-stocked Hannaford grocery store, Cumberland Farms convenience store & gas station, an Ace hardware store, a vintage goods & gift shop (Freckle Salvage), Dunkin’ Donuts, Fast Eddie’s Drive-In, and a Walgreens drug store.
